New plans for Carousel Motel expected to be approved

The Town Council of Paradise is expected to approve plans Tuesday night that will rid the town of a major nuisance property.

The one-acre Carousel Motel on the town's western edge has been the subject of numerous police and fire calls over the years.

The motel is now boarded up after the town went to court last year to have a third party take receivership of the property over health and safety issues, but now local contractor Tyler Edwards is seeing permission to tear down the motel and build a 15 unit apartment complex in its place.

According to a staff report, the land is zoned for 11 units, but town officials say they are willing to allow four extra units as long as Edwards allows three apartment units to be designated for low to moderate income tenants.
