New Mexico Police: Missing Butte County teen located near Arizona border

The Butte County 17-year-old reported missing Monday by his parents has been located and is safe, Butte County Sheriff’s Detective Jim Beller reported Thursday.

Nicolas Locatelli was reported to be in the custody of New Mexico State Troopers. Troopers reported they found Locatelli in the parking lot of a rest stop near the Arizona border. Troopers said Locatelli was in good health and plans are being made for him to return to his family.

On Monday, information was received that Nicolas’ debt card was used at a bank ATM machine in Dublin, Calif. A photo from that ATM machine’s surveillance camera depicted Locatelli who did not appear to be in distress.

On Tuesday, information was received that Locatelli’s debt card was used at an ATM machine in Valle, AZ.

BCSO was unable to obtain a photo of that transaction.

There is no indication as to where Locatelli was traveling or why he left.
