The new eastern span of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge is now open to traffic. Following a modest inaugural ceremony, the bridge reopened a little after 10 p.m. Monday in time for Tuesday morning's commute. The $6.4 billion bridge went through years of delays and cost overruns. But after a final security check and toll takers resumed their positions, cars that were lined up hours earlier became the first to cross the new bridge.
