The dreaded DMV wait is over for some people anyway. With a new online account, customers can access more than 15 different services, from the comfort of their own home.
Brenda Belcher from Forest Ranch says, "I have two jobs and it's so hard for me to find time to breathe. So it would be good if all I had to do was go online." Well now you can. With the California Department of Motor Vehicles new online services that launched Thursday.
California DMV Spokesman Mike Marando says, "What this does is it allows customers to log in and establish a user name and a password so they can do all their online business direct from their own landing page." In less than 3 to 4 minutes you can create an account. With your own user name and password, all credit card information and DMV transactions are completely confidential.
This includes all the new services too. Mike says, "Customers can now get an unofficial copy of their driving record for a modest fee of two dollars. They can also receive their vehicle record and registration record as well." Renewals can also be done with this account.
Firsttime drivers license applicants, drivers permits, and of course behind the wheel tests will still have to be done in a DMV office. "During the soft launch period of July through November we had more than 821,000 customers sign in as new users. We expect to double that in the next three to four months," Mike says.By going online you can actually save the time you would be spending here. Anywhere between 45 minutes and two hours. Leon Contreras from Chico says, "Coming here and taking that number and then you can like basically go get something to eat and then come back and you'll still have to wait in line and so having like an online thing would be awesome."
