New multi-use business and retail center is planned for downtown Redding. It will take the place of the old Greyhound building on Butte and Pine streets.
The Redding planning commission approved the project yesterday.
The Redding based company California Physician Reimbursement will fill the second story of the building and lease out the bottom story to restaurants or retailers.
Owner Jane Dean told Action News a microbrewery may fill one of the storefronts. Other options are in the works but owners were not ready to move forward until they got confirmation from the planning commission on Tuesday.
There will also be two upscale loft apartments on either end of the building. Dean said these will appeal to employees of Shasta Regional Medical Center which is only blocks away.
Dean added they knew putting a medical billing building downtown would not be very exciting, that’s why the couple decided to add retail space.
The building will be “L” shaped and will have storefronts on both Pine and Butte streets.
Construction on the building is expected to start in June.
