The walls are finally closing in on the 12-year old case. Now the Butte County Sheriffs Office has new evidence that is putting the spotlight on 47-year-old Marvin Markle Jr. According to district attorney Mike Ramsey, Markle shot and killed 41-year-old Shirley Pratt back in October 2001 near the Oroville Wildlife Area. The day after Pratt was killed a fisherman found her unclothed. Ramsey also says they found her car burned just out side the wildlife area. He believes they drove her car out there, something went wrong, she was shot, he burned her car to hide evidence then went home.
Four to five witnesses also came forward with information. Ramsey says they waited so long to talk because they were intimidated by the authorities as well as Markle.
Marvin Markle is scheduled to be back in court Wednesday July 24th and expected to state his plea.
