A Corning man suspected in a recent residential burglary has been hospitalized following a standoff Tuesday morning.

According to Corning Police, Cesar Macedo, 25, was on AB-109 Post-Release Community Supervision when he stole several firearms from his mother's home at 902 Toomes Avenue earlier this month.

According to Corning Police Chief Jeremiah Fears, probation officers with the Tehama County Sheriff's Office went to the home before 10:00am Tuesday, looking for Macedo. "Units in the rear of the residence saw the suspect leave the residence then run back into the residence...he did brandish a small firearm, a revolver, which was indicative of one of the firearms which was stolen from the residence," says Fears.

After trying to negotiate with Macedo as he held a revolver, Fears says Macedo finally came out, but did not surrender. He was tasered, and retreated back into the home. At one point, gunfire was exchanged. Less than an hour into the standoff, Maceda came out again and was tackled and hospitalized for a taser dart wound. During the scuffle, an officer was bitten by a dog described by neighbors as half lab, half pit bull. The officer was hospitalized with a bite to the thigh, and the dog was shot by authorities, then taken to a vet for treatment.

Macedo was treated for the taser injury, and will be charged with several felonies, including 'Attempted Murder of a Peace Officer.'

Neighbors say the home has been the scene of several violent incidents. Lisa Scharpp says there was a drive-by shooting at the home several months earlier in which no one was hurt. But the shooting scared a tenant living in the home.

Chief Fears says incidents with PRCS parolees put a strain on his tiny department. Says Fears, "We're an extremely small department. Now I have an officer with a significant injury...they continue to be released, we continue to fight the battle every day with these folks and we will continue to fight this battle every day with these folks."

There has been no update on the condition of the Corning Police Officer, nor the dog that was shot. Stay with Action News Now for the latest information on this developing story...
