Last Saturday's devastating earthquake happened on the other side of the world, but the impact is being felt worldwide, including here in Chico.

Chico State Professor Dr. Lee Altier spent three and a half years in the Himalayan Country with the Peace Corps and still has many he considers family in Nepal.

Fortunately, Altier has heard from most of his loved ones, who report that they are alive and well, however, they all know it's going to be a long road to recovery.

While Altier wishes he could hop on a plane and head to Nepal, he is doing everything he can to help from Chico. He is currently organizing an informational for next Wednesday May 6 on campus at Siskiyou Hall in room 120 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Altier plans on showing pictures from Nepal, and having students from the country there to tell stories and answer questions. The goal is to raise money to support the recovery efforts, which Altier says will be going on for decades.
