According to Butte County investigators, Helen and Clifton Murphy were arrested Thursday at their home on Melody Lane in Paradise. This after the department got a tip that the couple could be hoarding bomb-making materials. Thursday, the Butte County Bomb Squad, Paradise Police Department, Butte County investigators, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, and the FBI obtained a search warrant and spent hours at the property. Investigators say they found materials for making explosives and illegal assault rifles. The couple was arrested and charged with Possession of Assault Weapons, and Possession of Materials with Intent to Make Explosives. Several neighbors described the couple as quiet, and keeping mostly to themselves. One neighbor also said the couple has been getting several UPS packages in recent weeks. He says he thinks they are "doomsdayers," preparing for the end of the world. He does not believe they intended to set off explosives, but instead were stock-piling weapons. Investigators say Helen Murphy, 55, had a glock .45 cal handgun in her vehicle. She was charged with Possession of a Concealed Firearm. Helen Murphy is in the Butte County Jail on $190,000 bail, and Clifton Murphy, 50, is in the Butte County Jail on $165,000 bail.
