A man and his cat were able to escape an apartment fire in Redding uninjured Friday morning.

Redding fire crews responded to the Boulder Creek Apartments on Boulder Creek Court around 9:45 a.m.

Thanks to the efforts of a neighbor, who used a garden hose to put out most of the flames, the fire was contained to just one unit, and the single resident suffered some minor smoke inhalation, but he and his cat were able to escape mostly uninjured.

The resident told Action News Now he was in a backroom of the apartment working on his computer, when his living room couch somehow caught on fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
