February 11th is National 2-1-1 Day, to promote the free phone number that serves America, connecting 17 million people a year to critical health and human resources information and services.
In Butte County nearly 7,000 people used 2-1-1 last year alone ... for help with basic needs like housing programs, utility assistance, job training, bus routes, childcare, counseling, free tax assistance and even where to find the nearest food pantry.
It's a way to cut through the maze of services available to Butte County residents, streamlining the referral process to help them connect with the resources they need.
It's also a good number to call after a disaster ... to search out water, food, shelter and disaster relief services.
2-1-1 call centers also compile and report data about the calls they receive, which can help identify the service needs of the community.
Again, the service is free to everyone. For a complete database of free and low cost services compiled you can call 2-1-1, visit www.butte211.org or text your zip code to 898211. ###
