Kyle Larson came up racing Outlaw Karts and dominating at Cycleland Speedway in Oroville.
With a rare week off from his NASCAR Sprint Cup racing schedule, he returned to his roots Saturday and hopped in a 450cc go-kart in order to practice for the inaugural Kyle Larson Kart Showcase on Tuesday, September 8th, at Cycleland.
It was almost like he had never left.
Larson won his heat race, and ran steadily near the top of the 25-lap Open feature. But he couldn't quite overcome Holly Shelton.
Larson and Shelton were neck and neck for several late laps before Shelton displayed her experience on the track and pulled away down the stretch to capture the checkered flag.
It was Shelton's eighth Open feature win at Cycleland this year.
Mike Wheeler took second and Larson finished third.
After the race, Larson took to Twitter: "Raced my outlaw kart tonight at Cycleland Speedway. We ALL got schooled by Holly Shelton tonight. She's goin to be tough at the Race the Showcase."
The Kyle Larson Kart Showcase will feature more than 150 drivers vying for the $30,000 purse, the highest-paying event in the history of Outlaw Kart racing.
Larson will be racing with all the regular Cycleland stars like Shelton and special guests, including Brad Sweet, Rico Abreu and others.
