The National Alliance on Mental Illness … or NAMI … is hosting its 5th annual walk in Butte County on Saturday, April 26th.
The goal is for participants to either run or walk to help stamp out the stigma of mental illness. Nearly one in five people over the age of 18 suffer from a diagnosable mental disorder in a given year. It ranges from schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, anxiety to depression.
NAMI provides assistance with education and support to those who have mental illness, their family and friends.
The NAMI Run/Walk starts at the Downtown Chico City Plaza. The 10k starts at 7:10 a.m., the 5k at 7:20 a.m., and the walk at 7:30 a.m.
Also that day the first “white cards” to be issued in Butte County will be printed for those with mental illness to carry. It will contain important information about their condition they can present to police or medical personnel during an emergency.
