A Redding man traded in his swim suit for his birthday suit and decided to take a swim down the Sacramento River Thursday afternoon.

Witnesses said they saw a man floating down the river just north of Wyndham Ripple by the River View Golf Course “at a rapid pace and calling for help.”

Redding Police, Redding Fire, Shasta County Sheriff personnel along with California Highway Patrol responded to the scene and found Justin Sullinen moving down stream.

Sullien was completely naked when pulled from the water and reported to be “very cold.” Police said he told them he did not know if he had clothing on prior to going into the water and could not recall where he entered the river.

Sullinen was transported to a local medical center for medical treatment.

Official estimates said the Sacramento River hovers around 50 degrees this time of year.
