The Shasta County district attorney's office has filed second-degree murder charges against 53-year-old Virginia Anderson for her role in a crash that killed a Redding woman.

Anderson was driving a Honda Accord April 24 when she crashed into a motorcycle ridden by 26-year-old Hayley Riggins.

Anderson was evaluated by a Redding Police Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) and was determined to be driving under the influence of drugs. Anderson admitted to using prescription medication, marijuana, and methamphetamine earlier in the day.

In addition to the murder charge Anderson is being charged with DUI causing bodily injury, a felony, as well as a misdemeanor count of being under the influence of a controlled substance.

Anderson will be arraigned July 7.
