SWAT teams from all over the north state participated in a training event today in Butte County.
There were 16 agencies participating in the training including the Butte County Sheriff’s Office, Tehama County Sheriff’s Office, Chico Police Department and the Redding Police Department.
There were 13 different training stations, each simulating a different emergency scenario SWAT teams must be prepared for.
Butte County Undersheriff Kory Honea said “every scenario we encounter in the real world is different and there's always the potential you're going to run across something that's a little bit different than what we trained for. But that's the purpose of providing this training. Any of the basic skills that we train here will ultimately adapt to real world and help us deal with those things we haven't quite encountered before.”
The SWAT team training is an annual event and important for keeping teams sharp according to Honea.
