A French Gulch man was transported to Mercy Medical Center this morning after surviving a motorcycle crash and spending the night in a creek bed.
Richard Gudenkauf left for a motorcycle ride around 6:30 p.m. Monday night and while he was traveling west on SR-299 around MPM 8 in the Redding area at 45 mph when he lost control of the vehicle, went off the road and dropped about 30 feet into a dry creek bed.
Gudenkauf suffered a punctured lung and as a result he was unable to climb out of the creek bed. He attempted to summon help by waving a flashlight and yelling, but nobody heard or saw him.
Gudenkauf was stuck in the creek bed until around 6:20 a.m. Tuesday when a construction flagger heard him and was able to get help.
