Motorcyclist killed after hitting cow near Corning

A motorcyclist was killed in Corning early Saturday morning after crashing into a cow.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Troy Allen Shields, 46, of Orland was riding his 2004 BMW motorcycle northbound on Highway 99w, just south of Christian Road in around 1:30 a.m. Saturday when he collided with a black cow.

Shields was unable to see the cow and lost control of his motorcycle after colliding with it. He was thrown from the bike and suffered major internal injuries.

Shields was transported to Enloe Medical Center, but eventually died from his injuries.
