Redding officers were called to Shasta Regional Medical Center around 4:45 Sunday morning to investigate an alleged child molestation. 22-year-old Zara Crank, of Redding, reported that her boyfriend has sexually assaulted her 4-year-old son and asked officers to meet her at the hospital. When speaking with Crank officers noticed she seemed to be under the influence of methamphetamine. Officers also noticed a small plastic bag of suspected methamphetamine partially exposed and falling out of her tank top.
When questioned about the bag Crank admitted it was methamphetamine, and that she had been smoking methamphetamine in her apartment the previous evening. Crank also admitted to being up for several days and not caring for her son during that time.
The 4-year-old was removed from Crank's custody.
It was determined Crank's son was not a victim of sexual assault, but had developed a diaper rash from the lack of care from Crank.
Crank was arrested and booked at Shasta County Jail for possession of Methamphetamine and Child Endangerment.
