A motel clerk took matters into his own hands and fended off a would-be robber Saturday night in Anderson. The employee was not injured in the altercation.

Anderson Police responded to an emergency call at the Baymont Inn at the 2000 block of Arby way, according to an Anderson Police department press release. The clerk on duty at the time said a man entered the lobby armed with a large knife and demanded all the money and threatened to kill the employee. The employee defended himself, spraying pepper spray in the face of the suspect until the suspect fled the scene. The employee said the suspect came away with no money.

The employee described the suspect as a male in his 40s with a thin goatee, wearing a black sweatshirt, white and blue plaid shorts and wearing a black and white mask. The suspect left the scene in an older model, white four door sedan. The vehicle’s driver is described as a heavyset man wearing a red shirt.

Anderson Police warned citizens to use extreme caution when taking action against a suspect armed with a deadly weapon.
