BAGHDAD (AP) - Bombings in and around the Iraqi capital today have killed more than 40 people.

Eleven were killed when a car bomb tore through a commercial area in the sprawling Shiite district of Sadr City.

Deadly attacks also targeted several other Baghdad neighborhoods and a town just south of the capital.

Today's wave of bombings follows a suicide truck bombing late yesterday that killed a top Iraqi police officer and seven other people in the town of Beiji (BAY'-zhee), north of Baghdad.

There's been no claim of responsibility for the attacks, but authorities say yesterday's attack in Beiji bore the hallmarks of Islamic State militants.
