In an attempt to reinforce the dangers of hazing, Chico State held a mock trial last night.

The memory of Matthew Carrington reminded students of the consequences of hazing. Among those in attendance, Debbie Smith. her son Matt was killed in a tragic hazing incident in February of 2005.

The incident led to harsher hazing laws in New York and Florida. His story inspired Matt's Law, a California law that allows for felony prosecution when serious injuries or deaths result from hazing.

The mandated event for fraternity and sorority members intended to drive home the dangers of hazing. The community legal information center holds this mock trial every year to educate students on this matter.
