A body confirmed to be that of the missing Paradise hiker was found by Butte County Sheriffs late Monday morning.
Sheriff's media liaison Miranda Bowersox confirmed that
Butte County Sheriffs along with search and rescue teams found 19-year-old Tristan Lucero submerged in approximately 10 feet of water in the Feather River near Feather River Hospital after a two-week search.
Bowersox said no foul play suspected in Lucero's disappearance. Authorities suspect Lucero drowned but will wait on the coroner's report before making an official determination.
According to the sheriff's office, 19-year-old Tristan Lucero told a friend over the phone April 5 that he had been lost in the woods for several hours and had no idea where he was. Lucero mentioned he had been walking along the flumes in an area where repair work had recently been done. Lucero had not been heard from since that phone conversation.
Lucero did not enter the woods alone last weekend, a friend of his left him to seek help Sunday morning. A man found Lucero's friend at an unknown location and gave him a ride.
Bowersox warned that, while beautiful, the trails along the Feather River can be very dangerous.
"Hikers should be very careful (along the Feather River)," she said. "The current is very strong and the water is very cold. Hikers should use the buddy system and go with friends when possible."
