A rescue operation is underway in the Mendocino National Forest to save a man who suffers from COPD.

According to family members, Robert White left to go bow hunting in the forest Thursday morning and had not returned. Concern was high because of White's medical condition. He was reported missing to Mendocino County officials Thursday around 11 p.m. and Glenn County Search and Rescue was contacted Friday morning.

White was spotted in steep drainage around 8:15 a.m. Friday, but due to the rugged terrain, he was not reached by rescuers until 2:15 p.m. According to Glenn County Sheriff Larry Jones, White seemed incoherent.

With the assistance of the United States Forest Service, rescuers are working on carrying White out of the canyon. His exact medical condition is unknown at this time.
