Missing Colusa Woman Found Dead in Canal

The body of 51-year-old Connie Johnson, a postal worker in Colusa, was found in a canal off Lurline Road roughly two miles west of Colusa yesterday. Johnson was first reported missing by the local postmaster on Tuesday, November 12.

According to the Colusa Police Department’s press release, Johnson was scheduled to work Monday, November 11, but didn’t show up for work that day or the next. There was no answer at Johnson’s home when the postmaster called to check on her.

Sgt. Eldon Tamez of the Colusa Police Department told the Colusa Sun Herald in their report Thursday that “there was nothing to indicate any kind of foul play [at the house].”

Police soon considered Johnson’s case suspicious because of her usually punctual attendance record at work and she reportedly had never failed to show up without calling ahead of time. The department’s investigation traced Johnson’s whereabouts to as late as Sunday evening at a local restaurant. The Colusa County Sheriff’s Department, the agency who has currently taken the lead in the investigation, declined to state which restaurant. Colusa Police Officers interviewed a person who was last known to be seen with Johnson, which eventually led them to a location along Lurline Road to the west of Colusa.

It was there in a canal where her body was discovered and retrieved by members of the sheriff’ office dive team yesterday. The sheriff’s department has declined to state if Johnson’s body showed obvious signs of trauma and are waiting for the results of the scheduled autopsy before further comment. They too have deemed the circumstances surrounding Johnson's death "suspicious".
