The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office has identified the body of a man found burning in the back of a pickup truck on November 3, 2013 in Millville as 31-year-old Eric Richard Ratledge. The Sheriff’s Office has officially ruled his death a homicide.

On the early Sunday morning Cal Fire personnel were called out to a reported grass fire at the 8800 block of Bass Pond Drive in Millville. When firefighters arrived they found a truck fully engulfed in flames. As they extinguished the flames they found what appeared to be human remains in the bed of the truck.

Ratledge was positively identified through DNA analysis and his death is being actively investigated as a homicide by the Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit. The exact cause of Ratledge death is still unknown pending completion of autopsy reports. In a previous report by Action News Now, a detective with the Major Crimes Unit previously confirmed the owner of the truck was contacted and they did not report it stolen.

Ratledge had a criminal record with the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office, including arrests for possession and sale of controlled substances and violation of parole.

The Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s assistance and requesting anyone with information regarding this case to contact them immediately. There is currently a $10,000 reward offered by the Secret Witness of Shasta County for those who come forward with credible information relating to Ratledge’s death.
