Lake Shasta Caverns say its 2.5 millionth visitor today. Jessica Deily of San Lorenzos was there on her way home from a birthday trip to Oregon with her friend Ethan Zenda, when they decided to stop and tour the Lake Shasta Caverns.
Jessica became the two-and-a-half millionth visitor to tour the Caverns and was met with a small surprise celebration. Matt Doyle of The Lake Shasta Caverns gave her a bag of souvenirs, sweatshirt, hat, a framed certificate and a pass for her and a friend to the Caverns good for a whole year .
The popular caverns are one of the North State’s amazing natural wonders. It features year round tours, that include a catamaran cruise across the lake.
The Caverns first opened to the public on May 30th, 1964 and in May 30th of this year the Caverns will be celebrating 50 years as a tourist attraction. It was recently designated as a National Natural Landmark.
