A Mexican national was sentenced to 5 years in federal prison for growing marijuana in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest.
According to court documents, a team of law enforcement officers with the Trinity County Sheriff's Office and the Department of Justice searched a marijuana grow in the forest on June 25. While on the scene they found Mario Lopez-Parra, 30, of Michoacán, Mexico.
Lopez-Parra also told authorities he had been working at the site for approximately two months and during that time he dug approximately 1,000 holes in the forest, planted marijuana from seeds, and watered the marijuana plants. Officers counted 7,589 marijuana plants at the cultivation site.
