Mental health patient in critical condition after struggle with Redding police

A mental health detainee is in critical condition at Mercy Medical Center after a struggle with a Redding police officer.

At 10:43 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, officers arrived at Restpadd Psychiatric Health Facility on Eureka Way after a transport driver requested assistance with a combative subject.

Reports state that the patient, identified as Robinson, exited the vehicle he was waiting in and assaulted an officer.

Several officers struggled with the subject and gained control over him.

Whil waiting for an ambulance, officers noted that the subject had stopped breathing.

He was transported to Mercy Medical Center for treatment.

The identities of the suspect and the involved officers are not being released at this time.
