Memorial held for mayor allegedly shot by wife

BELL GARDENS, Calif. (AP) - A public memorial service is planned for slain Bell Gardens Mayor Daniel Crespo.

The service will be held at 5 p.m. Monday in Rose Hills Memorial Chapel in Whittier.

Sheriff's deputies say Crespo's wife fatally shot him Sept. 30 during a family fight, but no charges have been filed.

The Crespo's 19-year-old son called police to say his mother had shot his father in self-defense.

Deputies say the Lyvette Crespo shot her husband after he punched their son in the face.

A lawyer for Lyvette Crespo says she was a victim of domestic violence. The couple had been married 28 years.

A private service is planned Tuesday.
