Memorial Day services planned around the north state

Here is a list of local Memorial Day ceremonies scheduled for Monday:

Chico: The Chico Cemetery and Glen Oaks Memorial Park will be hosting Memorial Day events. The Chico Cemetery at 881 Mangrove Ave. begins at 10:00 a.m. The Glen Oaks Memorial Park event at 11115 Midway begins at 2:00 p.m.

There will be presentations of military honors, moving speeches and readings, and a spectacular visual display with fields of hundreds of American flags proudly displayed. At Chico Cemetery there will also be symbolic laying of wreaths by several organizations, music by the Chico Community Band, and new for 2014 – a beautiful 1921 Model T Hearse, along with an antique horse-drawn Hearse will be on display for

Orland: The Orland Cemetery District will be hosting the 5th Annual Memorial Day Observance on Monday May 26th at the International Order of the Odd Fellows Cemetery on County Road P between Roads 24 and 25. The Memorial Day celebration will be held on Monday May 26th beginning at 11:00 AM. The observance is the fifth since the District’s dedication of a new Veteran’s Section at the cemetery in 2010.

Redding: The Shasta County Veterans Memorial Day Services will be held on Friday, May 30th at 11:00 a.m. The ceremony will be at the Veterans Memorial Grove on the Redding Civic Auditorium grounds at 700 Auditorium Drive.

Corning: The Corning Memorial Day Observance will be at the Sunset Cemetery in Corning 10:30 a.m.

There will be a Bbq at the Veteran’s Memorial Hall on Solano Street at 11:30 a.m. with a short observance before lunch is served.
