There will be a free plant giveaway for all U.S. Veterans on Memorial Day, at the Veteran's Garden Project in Chico.
The mission of the Garden Project is to enable and encourage the act of gardening for healing of mind, soul and body to all U.S. Veterans in Butte, Tehama and Glenn counties.
This will be the 4th year for the plant giveaway.
The garden is located at the BEC Humboldt Community Garden ... at El Monte and Humboldt Roads in Chico, near Marsh Jr. High School.
Hundreds of plant starts have been grown in the program's Butte Creek Canyon greenhouse and will be given away FREE to any veteran and their families just for showing up. Tomatoes, peppers, zucchini, lettuce and many more starts will be available .
No home garden? No problem! Veterans can join work groups at the garden and reap the harvest as well.
The VGP offers this plant give-away twice a year. Once on Memorial Day and once on Veteran's Day. Last year each event drew veterans from WWII to present day conflicts.
The plant giveaway takes place from 9 a.m to Noon on Memorial Day, Monday, May 25th.
