Massive brush fire continues to burn in Neveda County

A massive brush fire has consumed more than 3000 acres of the Nevada and Placer Counties in just three hours and is continuing to spread.

CAL FIRE spokesman Daniel Berlant said the Lowell fire is currently west of Alta is burning completely in Nevada County and burning north. He also said the fire is spotting a half mile ahead of itself.

CAL FIRE officials have issued evacuation orders for Red Dog, Chalk Bluff and You Bet in Nevada County and advisories for north of highway 80 from Gold Run to Alta in Placer County.

An evacuation center is being set up at Nevada Union High School in Grass Valley.
