A teenager in Marysville was able to fight off a man who tried to grab her as she was walking to school Tuesday morning, Marysville police said.

Police say the 14-year-old girl was walking west on 17th Street near Elm Street, on her way to Yuba County Prep Charter, when a man suddenly approached her from behind and wrapped his hands around her stomach.

The teen was able to fight back, and was then able to run away. The teen told police she immediately texted her mom and reported the incident to a school receptionist as soon as she arrived.

Police spent the morning searching for the man, who was described as a Hispanic male in his late twenties, standing about 5 feet 7 inches tall with a bulky build, short dark brown curly hair and wearing eyeglasses. The man may have a scar underneath his left eye.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Marysville police at (530) 749-3958.
