The Marysville City Council has voted to end their contract with Cal Fire.

The council voted 4-1 Tuesday night to move forward with their plan, which calls to have a new department in place by June 2015, although a possible renewal of services through Cal Fire remains a viable option.

Marysville Mayor Ricky Samayoa says the city can't afford to renew the contract with Cal Fire.

Following the city's decision to end the Cal Fire services, city staff has begun analyzing the options available to replace Cal Fire.

The options being discussed by city officials are pursuing regional collaborations, seeking contract offers from neighboring fire departments and seeking a continuation of service through Cal Fire.

Discussions are ongoing with Yuba County fire agencies as well as other fire agencies in the count to gauge the interest in pursuing collaborative services.
