Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey said his office has formally filed charges against the driver in a crash that left a Las Plumas High School student dead.

Ramsey said a charge of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence was filed against an 18-year-old Oroville resident Monday, following the recommendation of that charge by California Highway Patrol investigators. The drivers name is being withheld because he was a juvenile at the time of the crash.

On May 1, the juvenile was driving a two seater sedan on Lower Wyandotte Road, with two passengers. Cameron Sabatino, 17, was killed in the crash, while Lance Anderson, 14, suffered major injuries.

Investigators say the driver was speeding at the time of the crash.

Ramsey said that because the driver was 17 at the time of the crash, the case will be heard in juvenile court.
