A young man was killed after being struck by a train near the intersection at Yuba Street in Redding earlier today. The Redding Police Department indicated in its press release the incident occurred at approximately 10:28 a.m. this morning.
The Police Department’s investigation concluded a white male, approximately 25 years of age, was walking northbound near the west side of the railroad tracks between 100 and 150 feet south of Yuba Street. At this time a train was traveling southbound. According to the release, the individual continued to walk northbound near the tracks. The conductor of the train reportedly made numerous attempts to warn the pedestrian by using the train’s horn, but to no avail. The pedestrian was struck and knocked in a westerly direction off the tracks.
Redding Fire Department and medical personnel attempted life-saving efforts on the pedestrian, however the individual was pronounced deceased at the scene. The identity of the pedestrian is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
