(UPDATE)-10:25 a.m.: The Butte County Sheriff Coroners Office has confirmed the identity of the man killed in yesterday's industrial accident as 42-year-old Deacon Murphy of Los Molinos. The exact cause of death has yet to be determined but an autopsy has been scheduled.

Yesterday at 1:30 p.m. Police and Fire personnel responded to a report of an industrial accident at Sierra Log Homes at 3650 Morrow Lane in Chico. On arrival at scene, Chico Fire Personnel found a 42 year old male subject who had been struck by a log which had fallen from a logging truck. The man was rushed to Enloe Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased from his injuries.

The initial investigation indicates the male victim was the driver of the logging truck which he had just driven to the Morrow Lane address to deliver a load of logs. He had parked his truck in the lot and was unfastening the tie down chains when a large log on the top of the load fell on top of him. Bystanders called 9-1-1 for assistance. The driver was not an employee of Sierra Log Homes but had made frequent deliveries there in the past.

An initial investigation was conducted by Police and Fire personnel and the California Division of Occupational Health and Safety (Cal. OSHA) was notified. They responded to the scene and will continue the investigation. The name of the deceased is not being released at this time pending the notification of next of kin.
