FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif. (AP) - Authorities in Orange County say a man is dead after being shot once by an officer responding to a pharmacy burglary.

Sgt. Tony Luce of the Fountain Valley Police Department says officers were called to a Rite Aide shortly after 4 a.m. on Sunday. When they arrived, they found the pharmacy's front glass door smashed open and located the suspect inside.

Luce says the suspect fought with officers as they tried to detain him. During the fight, an officer shot the suspect once.

The unidentified man was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

No information on where the man was shot or any further details about the fight and whether he was armed were immediately available.

The county district attorney's office is investigating.
