" It was pretty much my dream bike, everything I wanted in a bike was that" said Chico resident Nick Spencer. For many people a bike is just a bike, but for Nick Spencer it was his only means of transportation, and last Wednesday he watched a man steal it right before his eyes. There were more than a dozen witnesses near 7-11 on Main Street. Nick chased the thief for several blocks calling out for someone to help, but nobody did. " No one really did anything , no one wanted to stop him or help, so I pretty much watched what I do just ride away" said Spencer.
But it's the reason why he depended on the bike for transportation that is more important. In August of 2009 Nick survived a head on collision on Cana Highway, his car was totaled. Since that day, Nick has never been able to get behind the wheel of a car. " After that, being in a car wreck, I just don't trust other people to be around me in a car" explained Spencer.
Nick has filed a police report but fears his bike may be chopped up for spare parts. He's visited bike shops and has made fliers, but feels it may be a lost cause. " It's just real depressing that anything could be taken away in 30 seconds like that" said Spencer.
If you have any information on the whereabouts of the bike you are asked to call the Chico Police at 897-4900.
