WYCKOFF, N.J. (AP) - A northern New Jersey man has pleaded guilty to child endangerment because his pregnant girlfriend's 9-month-old accidentally ingested heroin last year.

The Record reports that 26-year-old Mark Tomat, of Mahwah, told a judge that he and his girlfriend had heroin at her Wyckoff home in February 2014. Shortly after he left the home, he learned that her son had ingested the drug.

The baby was unresponsive when emergency responders arrived and had a bruised forehead. He was taken to a hospital and was given Narcan, a heroin overdose antidote, and the child soon recovered.

Tomat entered his plea Friday. He could receive a prison term when he's sentenced April 24.
