Authorities are led on a lengthy high speed chase through Shasta County that spanned two cities. It all started just before 4 p.m. yesterday when authorities tried to pull over a silver Mustang for a traffic violation on Lake Boulevard in the City of Shasta Lake. The suspect led deputies into Redding before the chase was called off in the interest of public safety.
A CHP helicopter was able to locate the driver, later identified as Rusty Toso, heading north on Old Oregon Trail. Deputies were able to slow Toso down using tack strips to take out three of his tires. The chase finally ended at the intersection of Dry Creek Road and Highway 299. Authorities say Toso is a convicted felon and that they found a loaded gun and drugs in his car. He was booked into the Shasta County Jail.
