A man leads authorities on a lengthy chase, landing him behind bars. It happened around 2 a.m. this morning and started in the City of Shasta Lake. According to the Shasta County Sheriff's Office, deputies tried to pull over a silver PT cruiser at Pine Grove and Ashby, but the car sped off. The passenger, Daniel Hampton, jumped out of the vehicle and was detained by deputies. The driver, later identified as Michael Garcia, continued on to southbound I-5. The chase lasted 23 minutes and spanned more than 20 miles, reaching speeds of 80 miles per hour at times. It all came to an end when Garcia crashed his vehicle on Happy Valley Road after exiting Highway 273. Deputies say Garcia threw a handgun and ammunition from the car during the pursuit. He tried to get away on foot after crashing, but was eventually caught and arrested.
