A man fatally shoots his wife and then turns the gun on himself this morning in Tehama County.
Sheriff's deputies responded to the home on Electric Avenue off hwy 99 in Dairyville just after 4a.m.
Tehama County Sheriff Dave Hencratt said a child inside the home called 9-1-1 stating both his parents were fighting.
When deputies arrived at the home, they found the woman near the end of the driveway with a gunshot wound in the mid torso area.
She was transported to St.Elizabeth Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Deputies called for assistants from other local law enforcement agencies on securing a perimeter as they tried to find the shooter.
Officers surrounded the area and used a helicopter to locate the suspect.
Shortly after 5:30 a.m., deputies found the suspects body in the back of the home with a self-inflicted wound.
Hencratt stated the six children are in child protective custody and officials are trying to contact their family.
Investigators will be at the home to gather evidence and reconstruct the crime scene, Hencratt said.
Sheriff investigators are not releasing the names of the husband and wife at this time.
