The man shot and killed by Tehama County sheriff's deputies Friday has been identified as 21-year-old Angel Corona Jr.

Tehama County deputies were called to the Maywood Mobile Home Park on Barham Avenue near Corning at 6:09 p.m. Friday.

According to Tehama County Undersheriff Phil Johnston, when deputies arrived Corona Jr. was attacking his father, Angel Cresencio Corona, Sr. with a knife. Deputies ordered Corona Jr. to drop the weapon, but were forced to fire at him when he failed to comply.

Corona Sr. suffered lacerations to his face and neck. He was transported to a local hospital and has been released after undergoing emergency surgery.

Corona Jr. was pronounced dead on the scene.

The two deputies involved have been placed on paid administrative leave, pending the results of an investigation, but Undersheriff Johnston said a surveillance camera nearby captured the entire incident and should expedite the process.
