The California Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate a fatal, single vehicle crash that occurred just before 1:00 a.m. on Highway 99 near the Durham off ramp.

Emily N. Lupercio, 33, of Orland, was driving a 2005 Ford Expedition northbound on HWY 99 at approximately 65 MPH when for unknown reasons she made a turn that caused the vehicle to leave the roadway and roll several times.

Investigators say one man Bruce Rhett, 46, of Chico was not wearing a seatbelt and was killed in the crash. Four others were taken to Enloe Medical Center with injuries. As of 11:45 a.m. Lupercio is in critical condition, Laura Hoffman, 61 of Chico, is in fair condition, and Adam Mokres and Derek Hoffman, both of Chico, have been released.

Lupercio was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence and released to Enloe Medical Center.

The accident blocked both southbound lanes of HWY 99 and the Durham Pentz Road and Dayton Highway off ramp was closed for approximately three hours.
