(UPDATE) 2 p.m.- The man killed in a traffic accident on the I-5 in Glenn County this morning has been identified as 47-year-old Gregory Braden of Macarthur, Calif., according to the Glenn County Sheriff’s Office. The Willows office of CHP is continuing its investigation into the crash.

(UPDATE) 9:30 a.m.-
The victim of a fatal crash on the southbound I-5 near Orland this morning has been identified as a male driving a Volkswagen Jetta. His name has yet to be released.

The occupants of the big rig truck have been identified as 55-year-old Kathy Johnson of Dunlap Tenn., who was driving the rig, and 48 year-old Laura Leard of Grass Valley, Calif.

CHP stated in an updated press release the big rig was traveling southbound on I-5 just north of SR 32 in the number 2 lane while the driver of the Jetta was also traveling south in the number one lane. Around 4:10 a.m., the driver of the Jetta was traveling at a high rate of speed and slammed into the back end of the big-rig, resulting in fatal injuries. CHP speculated in the press release the driver of the Jetta was not paying attention to the road. The air bags were activated in the Jetta and the man was driving with his seatbelt on.

CHP is continuing to investigate the crash.
