Man hospitalized with gunshot wound after altercation in Bangor

A shooting in Bangor has left one man in the hospital in fair condition and another man in jail Friday, the Butte County Sheriff’s reported Friday.

James Jordan, 45, was transported to Enloe Medical Center suffering from a gunshot wound chest. He was allegedly shot by Jeffery Martin, 56, after the two had an altercation.

Sheriff’s dispatcher received an emergency call from the 6500 block of LaPorte Road reporting a shooting. The initial report was that a male had been shot in the chest by another male after an argument in the street.

The subject who did the shooting had left the scene at the time of report. Deputies responded to the area however the victim had been transported by friends to medical personnel. The victim was flown by helicopter to a local hospital for treatment.

Detectives were called to investigate this incident and during the course of the investigation learned that there had been some sort of issue at an address on Darby Road.

Martin allegedly followed the four people in the truck to the 6500 block of LaPorte Road where an altercation occurred and Martin allegedly shot Jordan in the chest with a .22 caliber Ruger semiautomatic handgun.

Based on statements these individuals knew each other prior to this incident.
The victim, at last report, was recovering from the gunshot wound but remains in the hospital.

Detectives arrested Martin for Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony and Causing Great Bodily Injury during a Felony. Martin’s bail was set at $200,000.
