A man was fatally stabbed early Thursday morning in Red Bluff. At 2:23 A.M., the Red Bluff Police Department dispatch center received a 911 call regarding a male adult who was bleeding from an apparent stabbing that just occurred. The reporting party telephoned 911 after seeing the male, whom he did not know, on his front porch. Officers responded to the 200 block of Pinon Way and located a white male adult who had sustained significant wounds that were consistent with having been caused by a knife. Medical personnel arrived on scene and determined the male had succumbed to his wounds.
While officers were on scene, they contacted Christopher Hougland who had suffered minor cut or stab wounds and was also seeking medical assistance. Hougland was taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital for medical treatment. He was later brought to the police department where he was arrested for murder. He will be booked into the Tehama County Jail later this morning.
The California Department of Justice, Bureau of Forensic Services, was contacted to assist in the processing of the crime scene. Red Bluff Police Detectives were called in to investigate and are continuing to do so. The investigation is in its infancy and will be ongoing throughout the day. Further information may be released as it becomes available.
