Redding police have identified the Anderson man fatally shot by Shasta County sheriff’s deputies Tuesday evening as Tim Kyle Torngren, 55, of Anderson.

A Shasta County man is dead after sheriff’s deputies shot him just moments after they received reports of a suicidal subject in Happy Valley.

Sheriff’s deputies were called to a home on Odessa Way around 5 p.m. when a woman called authorities and reported that her father had been making suicidal statements.

The woman told dispatchers her father had been writing letters that are suicidal and carries knives around with him constantly, according to the Shasta County sheriff’s office daily log.

Minutes after deputies arrived shots were fired and a man was killed. No sheriff’s deputies were injured.

Four sheriff’s deputies have been placed on administrative leave, and an investigation is being conducted by the Redding Police Department.

More information is expected to be released Wednesday.
